Medical Director
POSITION TITLE: MEDICAL DIRECTOR ******MUST BE AN MD OR DO************ REPORTS TO: SENIOR MEDICAL DIRECTOR SUMMARY: The Medical Director, in conjunction with the Senior Medical Director, is a synergistic link between Clinical Information Services and agency account and creative endeavors by ensuring scientific integrity/clinical relevance of all medical communication consultancy and deliverables. Within this role, the Medical Director interprets and applies clinical data, assures medical relevance and appropriateness of creative by providing medical direction and strategy, and functions as a liaison between agency and the pharmaceutical industry. FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Strengthens and expands Agency client base through development of new and existing relationships within the pharmaceutical industry.Represents Agency at capabilities presentations, pharmaceutical briefings, and other new business-related meetings as a full-time, permanent resource that has had extensive medical training, clinical expertise, and clinical research experience relevant to domestic and international markets.Maintains direct involvement and communication with respective Account Director(s) during new-business activities.Assists Director of Client Services in conducting physician and patient interviews as part of qualitative research for new business presentations and augments dialogue by delving into medical issues to more clearly define physicians’ and patients’ attitudes and behaviors.Facilitates War Games research by identifying potential physician participants, by assisting in the development of sales aids for research, and by clarifying and answering medical questions as they arise during focus groups.Reviews and edits War Games transcripts, audiotapes, and videotapes to identify salient quotes that substantiate agemcy strategic recommendations.Ensures the relevance and medical accuracy of surveys posted on the Internet for new-business quantitative market research.Assists the development of new business presentations by analyzing and synthesizing pharmacologic attributes, existing clinical data, and market research into a strategic application for agency capabilities.Strengthens the credibility and validity of agency capabilities and strategies through the presentation of medically related areas of new-business presentation.Performs ad-hoc literature analyses to identify and track evolving clinical issues and opportunities for therapeutic agents represented by agency.Assures the relevance and accuracy of the agency advertorial product by applying “real-world” clinical experience with patients and other physicians, current clinical guidelines, and pharmacologic attribute analysis (supplied by Clinical Information Services) to strategic process of account and creative staff.Attends medical advisory meetings as needed, serving as the agency medical liaison.Adapts and modifies current responsibilities of the Medical Director position based on prospective innovations and changes in the advertorial climate.Interacts with Clinical Information Services, Account Directors, Creative Directors and Copywriters. PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS/ATTRIBUTES: The Medical Director is required to have a medical degree such as M.D, or D.O. (subspecialty training is preferable, but is not a requirement) and 5 years experience in an agency or pharmaceutical environment. He/she must have the ability to think strategically, prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously, make decisions independently with appropriate input, and possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong medical writing capabilities, attention to detail and a creative flair are essential for this position. This individual must have a firm grasp of the science of medicine and pharmaceuticals, and work well in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, collaborative environment.
